SENSEI STEVE GAWTHORPE - CJC MASTERCLASS

A few years ago I had the honour of attending a Steve Gawthorpe seminar at High Wycombe Judo Club: it was an technically superb, challenging and amusing day in the Chiltern Hills at a great venue for Judo. So I was very excited to hear from an enterprising club member that he was organising for Sensei Gawthorpe to visit us here at CJC!

Sensei Gawthorpe was 1985 World bronze medallist in Seoul. He was 5th at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1984. In 1984 he also won European bronze in Liege. Steve Gawthorpe won the Dutch Open, Swedish Open and British Open among other important medals. He has a great pedigree, and his Ne-Waza especially is legendary. His coaching style is easy and littered with both technical insight and humour.

Steve gave us a two part seminar; standing (Tachi-Waza) followed by groundwork techniques (Ne-Waza). It was a fantastic day with a real gentleman and inspirational Judoka.
